little comix
The Amazing Adventures of Binky the Fish is created by Liz Greenfield, who has created a fish with issues. The poor little fellow floats about in his tank all day watching his owner and neighbours get up to all sorts and neglect his care. He's pretty existential. Each page is about 14 x 10cm and it amazing how much Liz packs into each page. She does this by going back to the old-fashioned British comics style tradition of a picture and some text underneath. It's effective on a small scale like this as you don't have to pare everything down like a film script and provides much more depth into the life of our little scaly friend. The artwork is lovely too - it looks like charcoal to me and the tones are used in quite a rich fashion.
You can see Binky and other comics at www.stuffsucks.com the title of which tells you a lot about its author! It is an utterly superbly designed site and has a cracking story on there which loads very well - something you don't always get.
Now for cute adorableness. A tiny photcopied flick-book comic called Viva Batata! created by a chap called David Goodman. Originally printed in 2001, it's clearly popular and must have something to do with the cute naughty and very hungry kittens It makes me want to speak in 'internets kittin' as it is vere cute and fluffeh. The linework is very clean and influenced by kawaii Japanese art without being a straight copy. It's very sweet.
